Drum Instructor: Ed Murphy
Edward James Murphy (Drums, Latin Percussion) is a graduate of Berklee College of Music, who began his formal studies with drummers Douglas Turet and Guy Febbraio at The Febbraio School of Music in Mount Vernon, NY. At Berklee, Ed studied with percussion faculty members John Ramsay, Steve Wilkes, Ed Uribe, Bob Tamagni, Skip Hadden, and Ed Kaspik. Edward has also studied with renowned drummers Kim Plainfield and Frank Katz at The Drummer’s Collective in NYC, and privately with jazz greats Adam Nussbaum and Bob Meyer. Mr. Murphy has additionally studied with African percussionist Fode Sissoko from the late, great Babatunde Olatunji’s group. Edward has performed and recorded with various artists including pianists Kent Glenn, Peter Tomlinson, Francesca Tanksley, trumpeter Lew Soloff, Joe Bouchard (Blue Oyster Cult), Dennis Dunaway (Alice Cooper), Percy Jones (Brand X, Brian Eno, Tunnels), The Hey Baby Band, guitarists Rich Rosenthal, Marc Huberman, and Jonathan Chapman. As well as with reggae groups, Gorillafinga and Mystic Bowie and experimental improvisational and electronic groups Litmus and Burnkit2600. Edward maintains a busy schedule, teaching privately and performing in the NY and Connecticut area.
