PRIVATE MUSIC LESSONS: Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to learn how to play?
It depends on your commitment. Like sports, dance and other skills, regular lessons and quality practice time is the key.
Is it too late to learn music as an adult?
Not at all. We have a number of adult students who are picking up an instrument for the first time, or returning to something they played years ago.
At what age can my child start lessons?
This depends on their maturity. Typically, piano, violin, drums, and guitar can be started as early as age 7, voice at 8, and wind instruments at age 10. You can always book a lesson or two to see if the time is right.
What’s the lesson cancellation policy?
Lessons cancelled with 24 hrs notice will be made-up based on the teacher’s availability. Since our teachers are booked far in advance, we have a designated “Make-up Week” at the end of the semester. Cancellations with less than 24 hrs notice cannot be made-up and the lesson fee is due.
What if I get sick the morning of my lesson?
Because lessons are set up far in advance, we are unable to resell time when an appointment is cancelled with short notice. We require 24 hours notice to reschedule your lesson, even for illness.
What happens on Snow Days?
School closings do not necessarily mean we are closed. You will receive an email if we will be closed, and we’ll book a make-up lesson. We rely on local weather reports, but If roads are unsafe where you are and we are still open, please call and we will schedule a make-up lesson.
Do you provide instruments for lessons?
Pianos, drums, and amplifiers are provided. For other instruments, students should bring the instrument they intend to use at home. Rental instruments are also available at our retail store.
Are lesson books included in the fees?
Instruction material varies by teacher and student, and is not included in lesson fees. Students receive 10% off all books, and accessories.
