R&D Music's NYSSMA Tips:
#1) The day of your NYSSMA adjudication. Here are some of our favorite ways to keep cool and play your best:
- Get plenty of rest. Take a nap if you can, or just close your eyes for 10 minutes in some peace and quiet.
- Eat a banana, or sip some chamomile tea. Natural beta-blockers are a great way to reduce anxiety and calm nerves.
- Don't rush into your performance. Take a moment to think about your first measures to set your tempo and dynamics. Sing the music in your head and take two deep breaths to relax.
- Plan something fun for afterwards! Treat yourself to ice cream, a movie, your favorite dinner, or invite a friend over. You've worked hard and deserve to celebrate!
