About

Radovich & Dean Music began in 1972 when Rudy Dean, a professional pianist in the Carmel area and David Radovich, a public school Band Director and Rudy’s son-in-law, decided to open a music store together in order to serve the local community. Their goal was to provide music instruments, supplies, repair service and private instruction in Putnam County, the area they loved and called home.

Dave and Rudy worked together in the business until 1993 when Rudy retired and moved to Florida. The business is still operated today by Dave, with the assistance of his wife Cindy, their daughter Tiffany, and son Kevin –all trained musicians.

R&D Music is a full line music store, specializing in school music programs. Some of the brands we stock include Gemeinhardt, Buffet, Opus 56, Firenze Pro, Samick, Getzen, Vic Firth, Evans, Ibanez, Fender, Samson, Hohner, Glasser, Rico, Vandoren, D’Addario, Ernie Ball, Dominant, Meisel, Korg, Armstrong, Vespro, Hartke, Suzuki, Gem, and Blessing among others. We also provide rental services for band and orchestra instruments, guitars, keyboards, and audio equipment.

As members of NASMD (National Association of School Music Dealers), we attend national meetings to discuss current trends affecting the school music programs in our country. It is our priority to support the music in our schools and help them flourish so our local music community continues to grow. We work with school districts for convenient pick-up and delivery of rentals, repairs, and music and accessory orders. We are very familiar with district bidding processes and price competitively to ensure the school’s dollars are used wisely.

For students participating in NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association), we have designed our own catalog, selecting the most popular solos from the current NYSSMA manual. Browse through our NYSSMA catalog on our website at your convenience. Our print selection is extensive, ranging from all the band and string methods used in local schools, to individual instrument method books, solos, pop sheet music, theory and technique books, jazz studies, vocal methods and collections, Broadway selections, perusal scores, and much more. We work with publishers large and small, domestic and international every day for both regular stock items, and special orders.

Our Instrument Repair Technicians are certified and trained to handle anything from quick adjustments, tuning, and re-stringing, to pinning, soldering, audio re-wiring, and overhauls. As a member of NAPBIRT (National Association of Band Instrument Repair Technicians), our repair staff attends workshops regularly to keep informed on the most up-to-date repair practices. We provide free estimates on all repairs and can appraise instruments of any kind or age.

R&D Music is equipped with a full service audio department. We provide customized sound installations in school auditoriums, churches, private facilities, recreation centers, or any other setting. PA equipment is available for rent for any event and we can also provide personnel to operate the system for your event as well. Our staff is trained to operate audio for musical theater productions, graduation ceremonies, fundraisers, parties, and even parades.

In December 2008, we began expanding our education department with the addition of more studio space for private lessons and group classes. We have private teachers for flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, English horn, trumpet, violin, piano, guitar, drums, and voice. Our group classes include beginning guitar classes for children, as well as adults, and we have a variety of classes throughout the year including guitar ensembles, chamber groups, theory and ear training classes, drum circle, acting classes, and pre-school music circles. Our teachers are professional musicians, with decades of experience teaching all ages and styles.

At R&D Music, we are dedicated to supplying our customers with the most professional, honest, and reliable service possible. Our staff has the expertise that has resulted in 36 years of building relationships with the music community the Hudson Valley. We continue in this tradition and look forward to serving our community for at least another 36 years – one note at a time.
